How do you feel about this quote from the State of the Union?

All Americans, not only in the states most heavily affected, but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers. That's why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens.

In the budget I will present to you we will try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes, to better identify illegal aliens in the workplace as recommended by the commission headed by former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan.

We are a nation of immigrants. But we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years, and we must do more to stop it.

No, she may not have been.

The statement, like a lot of Trumpisms, sounds like an army of pompous phrases moving over the landscape in search of a policy. Very short on substance. What do the Native Americans think of it?

She was always in the country legally, there is small question of whether she worked in the country illegally. But as I have explained to others.
It is possible for an immigrant to legally work whille their greencard is pending provided they filed a Form I-765.  Your article does not say they had access to her visa or if they knew for certain Ms. Knauss did not file the form I-765...so they are simply spreading unproven accusations. (Or one might say Fake News)
She recieved her B1 visa Aug 1996 and her H1B in Oct 1996 so it the H1B had to be pending (only 2 months between) so the only question is did she file the additional form. This post was edited by my2cents at January 31, 2018 6:19 AM MST

I'm for stopping the entrance of people who don't go through all of the legal steps, and if they get in anyway, deporting them when they are found. That is being kind.  The alternative would be putting them in prison for a while prior to deporting them.  I am for not allowing refugees from Islamic countries in today's environment.   As a matter of law I support sending the "dreamers" back to the countries of their parents......but from a realistic and common sense standpoint, I really am fine with letting them stay IF THEY TAKE THE PRESCRIBED STEPS TO BECOME CITIZENS in short time......process completed by the age of 19 or within six months for the ones who are now adults.  I keep hearing fools saying We're a country of immigrants.  No we aren't.  We are a country mainly of people born here who have immigrant ancestors.  That doesn't make us immigrants.

Agree. I am ok with DACA not Dreamers....DACA has requirements they must meet to qualify. (Schooling or military, work, no criminals) But no it should not just be based on age they came in illegally.

    "All Americans,"

Bullsnot right from the start. MOST Americans don't care. Employers appreciate hard workers and home makers appreciate peaceful neighbors. It is only a few loud mouthed creeps looking for something to hate. They say "illegal immigrants", but they don't actually care about the illegal part, they just hate everybody who can't defend themselves.

The number of Mexicans in the US has been constant for as long as anybody has bothered to keep track, except the number has risen since the border was closed. They still come to pick our crops, but now they can't go home at the end of the season.

How do you get on social security if you do not have a social security number ? It should be very easy to check.

And is frequently a job they wouldn't want to have....Your suggestion that one to one mapping obtains in this instance is simply not correct.

I have had the jobs supposedly no American will take. So has my husband, and many others I worked with.
I also know businesses who paid illegals to do jobs. I know the paid crap and treated them like crap. I also know Americans will do the job because they are doing the job now.
Sorry your have a problem with basic logic. If you pay people a fair wage and give the hours, they will do the job.

If farm workers were paid a "proper" wage your grocery bill would be much higher than it is.

So. Everything the store would be cheaper if we just got rid of minimum wage altogether. I have business why shouldn't I be allowed to legally pay my employees less in the name of a cheaper product?

At the start of the month, the Washington Post reported that Mr Trump had made 1,950 false or misleading claims in 347 days, or an average of 5.6 claims a day, according to its database.

The Associated Press, meanwhile, questioned the truth of 19 statements made by the president during the speech.
